Brender Canyon Red Field Blend
On September 19th, 2013 the Szmania family celebrated its first “Premier Release” of 2011 grapes grown on their vineyard in Cashmere, WA. Over 1,100 vines were planted in the spring of 2008 by Ludger Szmania, his three sons, Victor, Ethan & Lucas, and long-time friend and co-worker, Juan Aranda. These three varietals—Syrah, Sangiovese & Merlot—have been combined with some grapes from Horse Heaven Hills in E. WA for a delicious red field blend, produced by winemaker, John Patterson of Patterson Cellars in Woodinville.
Chef Ludger first vintage produced a smooth, medium-bodied red blend of seven grape varietal – primarily Merlot, Sangiovese, Syrah (plus Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot). The vanilla notes on the nose are followed by a soft oak finish. The Sangiovese grape acidity leaps through and is tamed by the soft tannins.
It’s definitely a wine meant to be enjoyed with Chef Ludger’s infamous food style of rich flavors, wild game, fresh seafood, authentic German cuisine and classic sauces. With only 33 cases produced from the first young vines, more delicious wines will be bottled shortly from the 2012 grape harvest. And even better yet, the 2013 grapes will be picked and crushed before the end of October 2013 with an exciting blend to come by 2014 from that juice.
Brender Canyon Vineyard wines are only available through SZMANIA’S Restaurant and Warm Springs Inn & Winery at this time. Please contact us for sales information and questions.
